For Immediate Release: South LA Demands Return of Obama Principal

(Los Angeles, CA) – The recent removal of the popular principal at Barack Obama Global Preparation Academy by LAUSD officials has caused uproar among school parents, local residents and activists.  Veronique Wills, an educator for over 20 years, was removed from the 10 month old campus because of alleged administrative errors. However, many stakeholders in the community believe that Ms. Wills’ removal is part of a pattern of undemocratic moves by the Superintendent John Deasy and LAUSD School officials to give schools to charter operators.
“This seems very similar to the Clay Middle School situation, where LAUSD leadership just blindsided our community,” said John Parker, Chair of the Empowerment Congress Central Area Neighborhood Development Council. “As someone who fought to get Obama Academy everything it needed, Ms. Wills deserves to stay at the school she helped build.”
An Ad Hoc Committee to Defend Public Education has been formed to push the following demands:
1.    The immediate return of Ms. Wills as principal of Obama Academy
2.    The reinstatement of the stakeholder vote for Public School Choice and its usage for all other major reform efforts

The group will be presenting their demands at the LAUSD school board meeting on Tuesday, July 12th at 1 pm (333 Beaudry, Los Angeles, CA).
